Ake: Man City players behind Steffen

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake says the players rallied behind Zack Steffen after his howl in their FA Cup semi-final loss to Liverpool.

Ake was one of City’s best performers that day, and he said the dressing room rallied behind the goalkeeper.

“He’s a strong character. He knows everyone is there for him,” Ake said. “Anyone can make a mistake – I’ve done it and everyone has in their career for sure. It’s bad luck and the team is there for him.”

Asked what they thought of the display, Ake said: “Disappointed, it was a two-half game. Very bad, and too slow in the climb and too slow in the pressing – everything was behind them and we know how good they are.

“And then the only thing you can do is fight back. We said that to ourselves and we should be proud of how we came out in the second half. It’s just a shame we didn’t come back to draw. At half-time we knew we weren’t playing well and we had to change things. We did it in the second half, but in these kinds of games it’s sometimes too late.”
