10 confirmed dead after tour boat goes missing off Hokkaido



Sapporo, April 24 (Jiji Press) — Ten people have been discovered since a tour boat with 26 people on board disappeared off the coast of northern Japan’s Hokkaido prefecture on Saturday, officials said Sunday. coastguards.

All 10 people, believed to have been on the boat, have been confirmed dead, according to the first regional coast guard headquarters in Otaru city in Hokkaido.

The tour boat called for help around 1.20pm (0420 GMT) on Saturday and lost contact about an hour later after reporting its bow was taking on water and tilting about 30 degrees.

On the boat were 24 passengers including two children, as well as two crew members. It is believed that they were all wearing life jackets.

The 10 people confirmed dead do not include any children. Seven of them are men and the other three are women.
